Abstract
Survivors and families of childhood and adolescent cancer reported psychosocial service needs. However, what should be the service outcomes have not been yet paid attention. We examined service providers¡¯ perceptions of the outcomes of psychosocial services for survivors and families of childhood and adolescent cancer. We conducted in-depth interviews with 19 service providers. First, service providers perceived the alleviating financial burden, alleviating stress and promoting emotional well-being, promoting social adjustments, decreasing parents¡¯ stress and anxiety, strengthening family functioning, and promoting holistic development as an individual-level outcome. Second, service providers perceived increasing organization¡¯s understanding of service users¡¯ needs, establishing professional identity, and increasing psychosocial services as an organizational-level outcome. Third, service providers perceived addressing stereotypes and prejudice towards cancer survivors, promoting positive attitudes towards return-to-social life, increasing awareness of psychosocial support, and increasing trusts towards service organization as a community-level outcome. This study suggests that there is a need for developing psychosocial services based on psychosocial risks and cancer survivorship trajectories of survivors of childhood and adolescent cancer and developing outcome indexes and validated measurements for services.
